Thief, Ze-driam Rothcal’s world takes a tumble when he stumbles into the largest deposit of sand found in the wild. Deciding to put the stealing and heisting away, he opens a sand seller with his crew that favors the poor and challenges the rich’s chokehold on the economy.
A caster-to-be and the oldest of the family, Liandra Sandheart is sent to Gardendaile to study the arts of sandcast and is thrust into the political scene at the royal table. At the bottom of the alchemist’s pond lies a lab full of secrets centuries old. If she is able to devise a method to breathe underwater, she will shed light on it all. Curiosity propelling her forward, and seeking a source of ‘off-the-books’ sand for illegal experimentation, she meets Ze-driam.
The worlds of poor and rich collide as Ze-driam and Liandra work together to unveil a plot against the folk of Gardendaile. Friendships, old and new alike, are tested, ways of lives are challenged and the weapons of old stir in their slumber.
